GTA glossary
The terms that come up everywhere on this site and in the GTA community, explained simply.
- DualSense
- PlayStation 5's controller, with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback — Rockstar has confirmed its integration in GTA VI.
- GTA Online
- GTA V's persistent multiplayer mode, still active and updated separately from GTA VI.
- Heist
- A mission or gameplay sequence centered on organized theft, a recurring pillar of the series since GTA V.
- Leak
- An unofficial information leak (often internal footage or captures), unconfirmed by Rockstar but sometimes proven accurate later.
- Leonida
- The fictional Florida-inspired state where GTA VI takes place, including Vice City and five other regions.
- Open world
- A game where the player freely explores a continuous map with no separate levels — the genre GTA helped define.
- Playable protagonist
- A character the player directly controls in story mode — Jason and Lucia for GTA VI.
- Pre-order
- A purchase made before official release, often granting access to time-limited exclusive bonuses.
- Rockstar Newswire
- Rockstar Games' official blog, their main channel for announcements.
- Rockstar North
- The main studio (based in Edinburgh) that has developed the GTA series since GTA III.
- Take-Two Interactive
- Rockstar Games' publicly traded parent company — their investor reports sometimes hint at GTA VI business details.
- Ultimate Edition
- The most complete edition of the game, usually with in-game bonus content over the standard edition.
- Vice City
- GTA VI's main city, inspired by Miami — previously seen in GTA Vice City (2002) and Vice City Stories.
- Wanted level
- Star-based system (up to 6 in previous entries) measuring how intensely police react to the player.
